Dr. Stuart J. Thomas received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia in 1979. He went on to earn his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in 1984. That’s the year he joined the practice his father began on College Avenue in downtown Athens in 1951.
In his free time, Dr. Thomas enjoys watching football, basketball, yoga and cooking. He is also passionate about his family. His wife, Sharon is also an optometrist and is a Clinical Project Manager for Alcon Labs. They are the parents of two daughters, Paige and Mary Stuart.
He is a long-standing member of the American Optometric Association and the Georgia Optometric Association, serving in various leadership positions including President. Dr. Thomas has also served as President of SECO, International, an organization that provides continuing education for optometrists and their staff. Most recently Dr. Thomas served as the Chairman of the Board for VSP Global and is currently on the Board of Trustees for the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.
